SCW Fundraiser (!!!) and next Kumbayawesome Saturday 9/27
We wish you all the best as we bid farewell to what was for us an amazing summer, and we hope all of you find yourselves settling into a nice fall rhythm.
First of all, we thought we’d let you know of some changes we’ll be undergoing this fall. Throughout the summer, we’ve had different guests coming and going—and the presence of different folks coming and going has greatly enriched our community. Sadly, though, we will soon bid a fond farewell to Kari, as she moves on to enter more fully into her ministry of healing as a bodyworker. We feel so blessed that she graced us with her presence these past couple months, and we wish her all the best moving forward.
Second, we will be beginning a new rhythm for our hospitality work starting at the end of the month. To accommodate a new anchor partner at the Hillman City Collaboratory, Families of Color Seattle (FOCS) and their day care program, we will now be operating our drop in center at the Collab from Thursday-Saturday, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. We’ll continue our practice of serving our of car in the Rainier Valley on Wednesday, and will devote Tuesday to joining the long-standing peace vigil at the Federal Building.
We’d like to renew our call for volunteers to help both with our work at the drop in center and serving in the Rainier Valley on Wednesdays. We’d also love for anyone who’s interested to join us on Tuesday at the peace vigil. It’s particularly helpful if people are able to make up a crock pot full of food, which gives one of us the evening off :). Let us know if you might like to join us in our service.
This is also a good point to pause and thank all of the holy souls who have already devoted their time, resources, and money to supporting the Seattle Catholic Worker’s ministry of hospitality. We couldn’t do it without you.
So, in that spirit, we enthusiastically invite you to the next Kumbayawesome and the Seattle Catholic Worker’s FIRST fundraiser on Saturday September 27th from 6:00-10:00 at the Hillman City Collaboratory. Our dear friend and mentor Wes Howard-Brook is turning 60, and had the idea to make the occasion a fundraiser for SCW, so we decided to merge his birthday party with our September Kumbayawesome and call it a ball. It is sure to make for an AMAZING evening of food, fellowship, and sharing.
Of course, if you can’t make it to Kumbayawesome, you can always donate online here, or check out our needs list here. A reminder: all the money we receive goes directly to supporting our ministry of hospitality, resistance, and community building, in all of its aspects. We thank God for the generosity of our beloved extended community.
So, we’ll hope to see you on the 27th! And a reminder that if you can’t make it, you’re always welcome to join us for dinner and evening prayer most nights of the week—just get in touch :). All God’s blessings to all people. May God bless and keep you all.
Andrea, Dinah, Eli, Gabbi, Kari, Peter, Muzak, and Annie (our new puppy!)
